The Hemophilia Association of the Capital Area is 44 years old! HACA became a chapter of the National Hemophilia Foundation in August of 1964. In these 44 years, we have suffered the devastation of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis. We have lived through a revolution in treatment and we can now treat at home with safe products. We have children who can now play sports. However, we still have a long way to go. Bleeds can be life-threatening, HIV and hepatitis treatments are hard to tolerate, inhibitors are not well understood, needle sticks are traumatic for children; we face emotional stresses and the cost of treatment and insurance puts an enormous strain on us. There is vital work to be done for the health and well being of our community.
Over this year, we will continue to publish the HACA News and HCV/HIV Today and offer programs such as summer camp, holiday parties, Blood Buddies, Bruise Brothers, emergency financial assistance and more. We have also established the George and Linda Price Scholarship to assist college or graduate school individuals.
