What is the Twinning Program?

The WFH Twinning Program supports short-term collaborative partnerships between medical professionals, patient organizations, and youth leaders from around the world to improve care for people living with bleeding disorders worldwide. The program promotes capacity building and sustainability through knowledge and expertise exchange between partners.

How did we get here?

In 2020, Kate Greene, Robin Monin, and Jennifer Sleboda began exploring a potential partnership with the World Federation of Hemophilia Twinning Program. Along with Brenda, our executive director, we met with representatives from WFH, and mapped out a possible route to get us into the twinning program. Unfortunately, COVID put a stop to our plans. Fast-forward to 2026 and Kate brought up the possibility of trying again. This time luck was on our side and when we reached out to The World they told us of an organization in Malawi who is interested in working with us!

What does this entail?

On Aug 30 2026 Robin and Kate will travel to Malawi in Southeastern Africa to meet with the members of SHAD (Society of Hemophilia and Allied Disorders). at that time we will hold meetings with community members, HTC doctors, and SHAD board members. Our goal is to learn more about their needs and if we have the abilities to help them reach their goals. A joint proposal will them be written and submitted to WFH. If it is approved, then we will officially be twinning partners!

Funding

The first part of the twinning process is completely funded by WFH.  If we are approved, then they will give us a grant every year to continue the twinning process.  HACA will need to fundraise to cover the extra expenses not covered by WFH. Our goal is to bring in $2000 for the twinning program annually.  We will start the fundraising campaign once we are approved in early 2027.
